About the Artist

Harry paints in oils, a durable medium with strong colours and a wide tonal range. Its slow drying time enables greater versatility in mark-making. Harry combines oils with other media when required, but the substance of oil paint is a vital feature of his paintings. For drawings, he uses charcoal: with a similar tonal range to oil paint, this is a lighter, less formal portrait in elegant monochrome.
Harry’s portraits are realistic and recognizable. He aims to show the sitter looking their best. Upon request, Jimmy Cortés (professional Hair & Make-up Designer/Artist from Broadway, Met Opera and Liceu de Barcelona) can be available for sittings at the studio in Barcelona (a great place to visit for your sitting). I/we can also travel to you, wherever you are.
Harry studied figurative oil painting in Florence with Charles Cecil for four years, focussing on the materials and processes of Baroque portraiture, landscape and the figure.
He did a three-year BA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute in London.
Harry lived for eleven years in New York, where he further developed a multi-faceted contemporary painting practice, and taught Latin, English, Art and Music.
Since 2017, he has been based in Barcelona, where his work can be seen at Atelier Café BCN. Check this site for artworks for sale.
